Home Painting Ideas for DIY Enthusiasts
Home painting is not everyone’s cup of tea. But all of us should give it a try because it gives immense pleasure while doing so. Here are some useful tips that would help you give your walls a proper finish.
Do the preparation
The very first thing you need to do is to wash down all the walls, which you want to paint. You can take the help of a pressure washer. It can be taken on rent from any store. After completing the washing process, take a scraper and remove all the chipped areas and loose paintings. No need to scrap the whole wall. But the uneven areas need to scraped as they create problems while painting. Next thing to do is to calculate the area of the wall by square footage so that you can determine the amount of paint required. Buy paint in 5-gallon pails, rather than gallons to save more money.
Collect your tools
You will need painting brushes and rollers during painting. What type and how many brushes you need can be best decided by consulting your local paint store. For oil based paints, you can opt for natural or synthetic bristles, while you can use synthetic bristles with latex paint. The same rule applies while selecting rollers. Don’t forget to purchase some painter’s tape. It is a blue tape that comes in different widths and can be easily removed without messing up your paint job.

Art Design Courses – What To Look For
Posted by admin in Arts N Humanities on July 31, 2009
Two of your major art design course objectives should first be an emphasis on your professional skills development and to gain the techniques, skills, methodology, and vocabulary that will be required for your success as a productive artist, designer, or scholar.
You second objective should be the development of critical judgment and historical perspective that you will need to become a problem solver. With art and design history mixed in with studies in the liberal arts and sciences, gives you the context for stimulating intellectual and creative thinking.
Art design is not simply about what you see, it is about what you can make someone else see. Find courses that start with the exploration of art design fundamentals, ones that provide the experience suitable for beginning as well as advanced artists. Once you gain a basic understanding of how to see and describe something in visual terms, you can investigate expressive and experimental directions in your art designs.
Working with the dynamics of color has significant implications in the work of artists, illustrators, craftspeople and designers. The course you choose should explore the issue of color by developing creative exercises, look at studies from nature, the human environment using collage, paint and other art media. Look for or request projects that will facilitate in-depth exploration of the role of light, the psychological impact of color on the brain, and how such factors as hue, value and intensity affect artistic design. Historical background should be provided via lectures and power point presentations.
Stained Glass Art, Craft and Pricing
Posted by admin in Arts Craft on July 29, 2009
Stained Glass is about creativity that is pure excitement, passion and yes fun satisfaction. It happens when you least expect it for some it happens while staying at a cottage at the beach. The salty air, seashells and interesting things lying on the beach spark creativity. Stained Glass art and craft is born every day in the souls of those in need to make something.
Creativity equals satisfaction. Creativity must be affordable and accessible to everyone.
Stained glass art is a passion yet at the same time a medium that people are drawn in by its textures, light and infinite colors. It is different from drawing, pottery, and other forms of art yet it fuses all other mediums to come up with a new way of viewing our world.
Sadly, many people who attend craft shows think of stained glass as a decorative craft. Often I will tell an acquaintance that I own a stained glass business and they automatically ask me if I could make them a sun catcher, lampshade, or maybe a sidelight. Most people don’t understand the cost of glass, foil, came and solder, not to mention the patina and use of tools and time.
Most who walk into Wal-Mart can find a stained glass lamp for $20. The problem is that they probably purchased something made in China and sadly made by someone who earned pennies just so big Wal-Mart could profit off of slave wages. Another concern is that due to a profit margin most who makes stained glass lamps or sun catchers must cut corners in the types of materials and the amount of materials they use.
